[INFO] SHINee Interview on Asian Place July 2011 – Part 2

- Your debut song Replay is the Japanese version of your song released in Korea in 2008. How did you feel singing it again in Japanese?
Onew        : I think we find its charm again and again every time we listen to it. The charm doesn’t change even when we sing it in Japanese.
Jonghyun: That’s why the song is titled Replay (laugh).
Onew         : Right! Once you listen to it, you can’t get out of it.

- The song conveys this feeling of being sorry because she doesn’t know your heart, feeling tender toward her, and feeling true affection. What did you pay attention to when your recorded it?
Jonghyun: First, I paid attention to Japanese pronunciations. I was very worried if I couldn’t deliver the lyrics well, so I checked with our Japanese teacher and Japanese staff while recording. It was our first time recording in Japanese, so frankly I didn’t know how Japanese emotion is different from Korean, but I tried to express the feelings.
Onew       : I tried to express the feeling of fluttering heart.
Key: Because we had to express feelings in a different language, I tried to make it sound as natural as possible. I recorded it checking on my pronunciations with Japanese staff.
Minho     : It has a different feel from the Korean version we have sung for 3 years, so it wasn’t easy, but I tried to express the feelings.
Taemin  : In the Japanese lyrics, we are more matured, so I sang in a lower and stronger voice to express it.

- I see it is so touching because of such efforts. What part is your favorite?
Onew         : I like the part “Replay Replay” as in the title.
Minho        : I also like the part and all of it.
Jonghyun: The last bridge part.
Key             : The ending part with each member’s adlibs. The rap and Taemin’s dance part.
Taemin    : Thanks (laugh). I like the intro part.

- The Replay M/V is on the DVD. Did you have any impressive episodes while filming it?
Jonghyun: A special technique was used for this m/v.
Taemin    : Yes, some parts were shot with a matrix camera.
Minho       : The matrix was used for my and Taemin’s parts. It was very interesting. It was our first time filming a music video in Japanese, so we had a hard time in close-up scenes showing our lips. The member who made many mistakes is…
Jonghyun : Isn’t it Taemin?
Taemin      : Uh, me? But I tried hard (laugh). We filmed in Paju, Korea, the same place we filmed the m/v for our Korean debut single Noona Is So Pretty, so it was more meaningful.
Onew        : Right. We were deeply moved because we filmed the m/v for our Japanese debut single in the same place where we filmed our first m/v. I felt we are making a new start.

-What memories do you have of the year 2008 when you released this song in Korea?
Key             : I still remember I practiced this song with members until early morning hours.

Jonghyun: we practiced all day. I still remember how hard we practiced.

- Tell me what impression you had when you listened to the couple song Hello, and what you like most.
Jonghyun : It was a calm and warm song. And the first thought that came to my mind when I listened to this song first time was “Ah, this song is really difficult” because we’d have to sing it (laugh).
Minho       : I thought the beat was very new and interesting.
Taemin    : It has a light feel and matches the lyrics very well.

- Say your goodbye messages to Japanese fans.
Onew   : Please, cheer for us as we are debuting in Japan. There are many people who suffered from the earthquake. We will be happy to be of help with our songs and performances. We’ll do our best.
Key      : We are all looking forward to our debut in Japan. We are studying Japanese for our debut. We’d like to show our SHINee-like music and performance to Japanese fans as soon as possible. Please, cheer for us.
Taemin : We’re now at the change of seasons, so take care not to catch a cold! See you in Japan!

[NEWS] SHINee Interview Elle Girl Korea June 2011 -Jonghyun

He was unreservedly relaxed throughout the photoshoot. When he had an eye contact with me, he didn’t avoid it. My first impression of him was different. A born vocalist and emotional man who cries often on stage. I expected him to be shy, but he wasn’t.

“We have had photoshoots with a variety of concepts. The formal style with a shirt and tie is not very comfortable to me. I usually pose and act relaxed and loose.”

Jonghyun endured the first half of the year “patiently” because of his leg injury.

“We had our solo concert for the first time since our debut, but I couldn’t dance for most of the time. But we had lots of performances together at the later part of the concert, and special stage sets helped me slake my thirst somewhat.”

His tears before fans during their concerts in some Asian countries, including Japan, became a hot topic.

“I’m sensitive and easily moved to tears. Usually all our emotional rhythm goes “up” during performances. My emotion seems to become uncontrollable as all kinds of thoughts come to me. But I’m not crying because I am sad.”

How does Jonghyun think of his voice as a vocalist?

“Most vocalists don’t like their own voices very much. Some of them receive training to change their voices. But I can at least assure you I can make whoever listens to my singing recognize it like “Ah, this is SHINee Jonghyun” instantly. I think I have my own distinct color.”

Then, what song does Jonghyun like most amongst SHINee’s songs? He answers immediately:
“Actually, there are some unpublished songs I like. Yet ‘Noona Is So Pretty’ is the song I feel most attached to.”

I was curious about ‘Obsession,’ the song whose lyrics he participated in writing.

“When I was little, my mom didn’t give me pocket money if I didn’t write book reports, haha. Maybe because it’s become my habit, I feel relaxed when I am writing. I make notes of ideas and use them when I study writing lyrics.”

Jonghyun was serious throughout our Q&A about music. He was back to being lively when I asked an unexpected question.

“Three things I like most besides music? Well, I think I have nothing left with music excluded. Ah! I like animation with heroes and comics. And also exercise except for playing with a ball.”

Jonghyun was a very good speaker. He used every word precisely and made clear pronunciation carefully. It didn’t take him long to answer any question. Lastly, I asked him about the ‘identity of SHINee.’

“(Identity of) SHINee? SHINee is SHINee. What more is there to explain? To me, SHINee is like this: Going together all the way as we get older.”

[NEWS] Ori Suta Reporter’s Snippets on SHINee

A series of 5 reports on SHINee to be published from the 6/3 issue!

Who is SHINee’s “angel”?

I’ve been to Korea to interview SHINee who will debut with『Replay -君は僕のeverything-』on 22 June!

When I greeted them “Nice to meet you!”, they all greeted me back in Japanese in a spirited way.

The five of them were like bosom friends during the photoshoot !

They said “Cute”, “Cool~” to each other loudly in Japanese!

The youngest member Taemin was called “Angel” and adored for everything by all the members who said “He’s a real angel.”

As for Minho-goon, Key-goon said, “He’s calm but sometimes goofy.”

Key-goon’s Japanese is really good! He seemed to have studied with Japanese dramas and variety shows. His favorite gag man is Harisenbon!

Jonghyun-goon is a member who knows where to finish during the interview.

It was impressive he got shy when asked to make the most playful face for solo photos~

Onew-goon guided them gently but bounced high-spirited for his solo photos!

Anyway all the members were lively, and the photoshoot and interview was finished in an instant!

SHINee interview will be published in a series of 5 parts from the 6/3 issue.

You will find the charm of SHINee as a group and of each member, so make sure to check it out!

[NEWS] ELLE GIRL KOREA- JUNE 2011 EDITION (ONEW'S INTERVIEW)

During the interview and photoshoot session, it seemed as if Onew was constantly observing the environment. If there were any shortages or problems, he would not hesitate to help. In comparison with magnae Taemin’s flower-like smile or sculpture like handsome boy Minho, Onew’s trademark “Ahahaha” laughter is never inferior. This is SHINee's leader Onew, his leading style.

"Instead of lecturing members and telling them to do this and that, I'm just in charge of listening (to them) since everyone is doing their part very well already. Understand them and walk my own path. (laugh)"

Approaching the 4th year of SHINee since debut, many things have changed along the route but amongst them all, personal change is still the most important.

"Through activities with SHINee, my personality has changed a lot. Became more out-going? Compared to before, I've become closer with everyone. First of all, being recognized by a lot of people makes me feel good."

Whilst SHINee establishes themselves as a talented group in the industry, the market is still expanding with lots of new groups debuting. Without realizing, you've become a 'sunbae' (senior) looking over these kids already, how do you feel?

"Currently I'm MC-ing for a program, I feel like the new groups are becoming younger and younger. Thinking back, we were like them too. Recently they all seem to be quite good."

In addition to MC-ing, Onew has challenged himself in Musicals, and has received a lot of positive feedback and praises. However, it seems like SHINee will be promoting overseas, the question is do you feel stressed or afraid with the upcoming Japan activities?

"We've had a lot of performances in Japan before. Indeed, it will be great if we could bring more happiness (laughters) to our fans and communicate with everyone."

As a guest on "Happy Together", Onew sat next to the MC's instead of the guest seats due to his outstanding variety skills which is widely recognized. Does this mean your variety sense will work in Japan too?
"Actually, I'm not sure if it is going to work. The more you put in, the higher chance it is to get more out? haha. (T/N: korean saying) Want to prepare a unique self-introduction. For example, "I-am-Onew-who-is-not-scared-of-scary-movies" something like this? (really?) might be scared inside but others will not know because there is no reaction.

Forgetting immediately when he feels frustrated, sleeping when he feels moody, singing songs he likes when he feels happy. Comparing with others, Onew is not much different...a realistic life and doesn't really mind how people sees him.
"Comparing to what people say, I am just being my natural self. I have always been this kind of person"

We totally did not expect this early 20th generation boy is a 23 year old idol who has a greed to become a celebrity. His calm and natural mentality brings us many hidden surprises.
